The poetry: Ligature Poetics

To learn about typographic ligatures and to practice skills in composition and content development, we have our students write a single sentence using words that include the five common ligatures. For the undergraduate-level student, the topic of the sentence is open. For graduate-level UIC students, the sentence is based on a thesis research interest. A series of posters with this content is then created. During the process, for graduate-level students, vague thesis ideas progress into tangible form.

Our essay on this project was featured in Designer Magazine, a publication of the University & College Designers Association.
